Nintendo has confirmed that the profit margin for Nintendo Switch 2 is lower than that which it achieved for the original portable home console.

This week, the company announced that it had forecast that it will sell 15 million Nintendo Switch 2 consoles before its current fiscal year ends on 31 March 2026.

As Bloomberg Opinion columnist Gearoid Reidy reports, despite projecting that the company’s net sales will increase 64.1 percent year-on-year, its net profit is only expected to rise by 7.6 percent.

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has explained that the main reason for this is that the Nintendo Switch 2 has a lower profit margin compared to the original Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo Switch 2 will be released at retailers around the world on 5 June 2025, priced at £395.99 in the United Kingdom, €469.99 across Europe, and $449.99 in the United States.
