Nintendo spending big on 2DS and Pokémon X & Y advertising

Having already seen Animal Crossing: New Leaf become the most advertising game so far this year, Nintendo are to spend just as much to market the 2DS and Pokémon X & Y into the Christmas period.

The company hopes to attract parents and children, as Microsoft and Sony’s next-gen consoles themselves seek to dominate festive attention.

“Nintendo has been 2013’s biggest TV advertiser, with Animal Crossing receiving more ads than any other video game this year,” claimed advertising firm Generation Media.

“We saw an opportunity for an entry level gaming device,” Nintendo UK marketing director Shelly Pearce explained to MCV. “2DS will have its own TV campaign and it will feature in our Pokémon advertising. The Pokémon X and Y campaign is on the same level as our Animal Crossing campaign. It’s going to be huge, and starts on TV later this month.

“We have more Animal Crossing activity, too. There will be a lot of handheld noise this peak season.”
