After a splurge of new Hyrule Warriors information this week courtesy of Japanese magazine Famitsu, Nintendo of America have stepped in to share localised plot and gameplay details to accompany the fan translations.

The delicate balance of the Triforce has been disrupted, and we learn that Link will face the evil sorceress Cia and her army as he looks to rescue Princess Zelda from captivity. Hyrulean Captain Impa will appear as a playable character for the first time, equipped with a huge sword, with Nintendo noting that “other surprising playable characters” will make an appearance. Each will have their “signature weapons and action animations,” so start your predictions now!

The first stage of the game takes place in Hyrule Field, which should be more than familiar to fans, and the company notes that “the gameplay structure of most of the stages bears a close resemblance to the Dynasty Warrior games,” meaning that you’ll defend or reclaim areas by fending off hordes of enemies.

Hyrule Warriors will launch for Wii U across Japan on August 14th, with no date yet set for the west.
