Nintendo has shared the first official photos from the upcoming live-action The Legend of Zelda movie, now that its production has started.

“This is Miyamoto. Filming is underway for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda in a lush, natural setting, with Bo Bragason-san who will play Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth-san who will play Link,” the company shared on social media.

“Filming is on track for the film’s release on May 7, 2027. It will take a while until the release, so we would be grateful if you would wait patiently and look forward to it.”

The movie stars Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link, with recent leaked footage from on-set filming suggesting that Severance star Dichen Lachman appears to be playing Impa.

With plans first announced back in November 2023, the film will be produced by Shigeru Miyamoto and Arad Productions chairman Avi Arad, who has worked as a producer on recent films such as Ghost In The Shell, Venom, Uncharted, Morbius and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

The film will be produced by Nintendo and Arad Productions Inc., and directed by Wes Ball. The film will be co-financed by Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc., with more than 50% financed by Nintendo. Sony Pictures Entertainment will be responsible for the movie’s theatrical distribution worldwide.

The live-action The Legend of Zelda movie will be released worldwide on 7 May 2027.
