Sony are going through a particularly tough time at the moment following a widely reported intrusive attack on their PlayStation Network servers, resulting in the loss of account information for millions of users.

In their on-going coverage of the situation, Kotaku contacted Nintendo in regards to discussing the security measures taken to keep customer information confidential, with which the company commented that they felt it was “extremely important” for them to do so.

“The security of and confidentiality of our customers’ information is extremely important to us,” a Nintendo explained in a statement. “That’s why we have many technical, administrative and physical security measures in place to protect personal information from unauthorised access and improper use. We also review our security procedures periodically to consider appropriate technology and updated methods, and test our systems.”

Whilst such comments are necessary at such a time, it must be remembered that no company can deem themselves safe from a cyber-attack. Sony were caught completely off-guard this time despite substantial measures being in place. Let us just hope that this isn’t something that will recur in future.
