Nintendo respond to Wii sales decline

It was inevitable that following consistently strong performance at retail early in its life cycle, the Wii would soon see sales suffer later on once the .

However Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime doesn’t see this as a negative issue, believing that such a sales slide is a positive lead into the company releasing its forthcoming home console, the Wii U.

“The Wii is now approaching 40 million homes here in the United States, so from a penetration standpoint we’re beginning to top out in terms of the total number of systems sold”, Fils-Aime explained to the Los Angeles Times. “That’s why it makes so much sense to prepare for the launch of the Wii U.”

Whilst we still await more concrete information regarding the Wii U, Fils-Aime recently revealed that Nintendo would be sharing details ahead of its E3 2012 media presentation in June.
