It has emerged that Nintendo of America have filed a “request for extension of time to file a statement of use” for the dormant Eternal Darkness trademark that they own.

Submitted on Monday 23rd June to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), it is the first extension that the company have requested which will grant them an additional six months to reveal what they plan to do with it.

The GameCube exclusive was to receive a spiritual successor in Shadow of the Eternals, although Precursor Games failed to the necessary funds through Kickstarter. It has since been placed “on hold,” although they shared their belief that it could still be completed.
