Nintendo of America has announced that they have sold an incredible 1.5 million units across both its Wii and DS platforms during Black Friday week in the U.S.

Such figures are according to the company’s internal sales estimates, with the combined sales of the Nintendo DS family of systems reaching 900,000 units with the Wii achieving a further 600,000 between Sunday 21st November and Saturday 27th November.

“U.S. shoppers bought about 9,000 Nintendo hardware systems non-stop for every hour of every day during the week of Black Friday,” commented Nintendo of America President and CEO, Reggie Fils-Aime. “For the past several years, consumers have decided that Nintendo defined both top value and all-inclusive entertainment, and that sentiment continues again at the start of this shopping season.”

Such a surge in sales is believed to have been fuelled by the range of new hardware bundles and colours on offer, including the Red Wii and DSi XL bundles celebrating the 25th Anniversary of NES classic Super Mario Bros. as well as the new orange and green DSi systems.
