Future Publishing are to pull the plug on Nintendo Power magazine, ending its long-running tenure since 1988.

Ars Technica broke the news, which had been shared by a source claiming that Nintendo of America, who had always been “difficult to work with,” were uninterested in renewing the contract or in taking part in a number of digital initiatives that the publisher had seen as necessary for the brand.

Nintendo Power’s editorial team were told of the news last week, and will join other properties such as GamesRadar and MacLife magazine.

Senior editor Chris Hoffman wrote on social media site Twitter that he was “sad to see it go,” with writer Phil Theobald also commenting that they had “something pretty sweet planned for the final issue,” although both messages were shortly deleted.

It’s incredibly sad to see the publication go, and our very best wishes go out to all those involved.
