Nintendo outpaced as PlayStation 4 takes the lead in Japan’s weekly sales

Media Create’s weekly software and hardware sales charts have seen Sony take the lead in Japan, with interest surrounding PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita surging in response to high profile releases.

Square Enix’s Final Fantasy Type-0 HD secured the top spot, with 92,094 copies sold between 16th – 22nd March 2015, while EA’s Battlefield: Hardline, Capcom’s Resident Evil Revelations 2 and Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition performing strongly to see Sony’s platforms dominate the top five places.

Wii U exclusive Mario Party 10 was Nintendo’s best for the week with 21,433 copies sold, with Bandai Namco’s lengthily named PriPara & Pretty Rhythm: PriPara de Tsukaeru Oshare Item 1450! and Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars the only new releases on Nintendo 3DS.

As for hardware, the Nintendo 3DS family saw 28,704 unit sales, whereas the Wii U continues to steadily remain around the same weekly number with 7,595 units sold.
