The Game Awards 2014 opened with legendary composer Koji Kondo playing through the Super Mario Bros. theme, before Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime took to the stage to open the show.

“We can’t tell you everything about 2015 today,” Fils-Aime explained. “But to provide an update on one of his upcoming projects, let’s head to Japan to hear from a very special friend.”

That very special friend was Shigeru Miyamoto, who, speaking entirely in English, reminded viewers that 2015 will mark the 30th anniversary of when Super Mario Bros. was first released.

Mario Maker will help to celebrate such occasion, with Miyamoto introducing new gameplay footage which revealed that Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World skins have been added to the level creator – only Super Mario Bros. and New Super Mario Bros. U having been shown at E3 2014.

Mario Maker will release exclusively for Wii U in 2015.
