The first Pokémon games launched in Japan on 27th February 1996 and, as such, will see the date celebrated as Pokémon Day this month.

That will see Pokémon Blue, Pokémon Red, and Pokémon Yellow release on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console service, new hardware bundles, and special Pokémon events take place at retailers.

We already knew that Toys R Us stores will be handing out special foil cards featuring Pikachu and Magikarp from the new Pokémon TCG: Generations expansion, a Pokémon activity book and a poster of the original 151 Pokémon, while GameStop will offer a Mythical Pokémon poster to those that buy any Pokémon product – with an exclusive Mew plush available for purchase.

Whereas New York City’s Nintendo NY store will host their own anniversary celebrations on Sunday 27th February, which will allow visitors to take a look at the changes made as part of the store’s refurbishment this month.
