Nintendo NX Leaks Continue After Major Retailer Tells All

With less than six months to release, it has increasingly become a test of patience in how long we have had to hold out for Nintendo NX‘s eventual reveal.

It’s still unclear as to precisely when that will be, which means that we are left to speculate over any leaks and rumours that continue to emerge. The latest has appeared on Reddit, and has been verified to have come from a source that works at “a very large retailer” in the United States.

“We have verified that our source works for a very large retailer. We have verified that this source is in a position to have access to this sort of information,” Nintendo NX subreddit moderator FlapSnapple clarifies. “Exact details of what was provided will not be released. We take protecting the identity of our sources very seriously. Our source has added the disclaimer that this is all initial information and subject to change as time goes on.”

Breaking down the information that has been passed to the subreddit to help safeguard the source’s identity, the details centre around the dedicated game platform‘s marketing plans, packaging, features and specs, and an undisclosed bundle that will be priced at $399.99.

The marketing campaign will concentrate on how players can interact with their games on the go, with a new Mario game said to play a significant role in advertising the console’s launch. There’s another nod toward the console using cartridges, supporting 4K streaming, and Nintendo will look to promote how many games will run at 1080p and 60fps when the handheld is docked with the console.

Marketing

  • “Interact with your game on the go.” phrase seen on a poster.
  • Strong co-branding effort with a Mario launch title on many posters.
  • Console is currently set to launch with least 4 titles on deck.
  • Stores should be receiving demo units around February.
  • Base price point seems to be sitting at $299.99
  • Bundle

  • The NX is currently set to have a bundle option.
  • The contents of this bundle is currently unknown.
  • Bundle price is currently sitting at $399.99
  • Packaging

  • The packaging for the NX will be slightly larger than the Wii U’s packaging.
  • The packaging is relatively clean and simple and is similar to the Wii U in terms of package design.
  • The color scheme for the packaging is white and blue (compared to the Wii U’s blue and black).
  • The packaging still says “NX” however there is still no indication if this is a placeholder or the final name.
  • The areas of the packaging that would usually depict the hardware were blurred and redacted by Nintendo in attempt to keep it hidden.
  • Features and Specs

  • Games will be on cartridges
  • 4k streaming has been mentioned. – What this likely means is playback of content such as Netflix, etc. Not gameplay.
  • 1080p and 60fps are being used by the marketing teams in relation to gameplay on to the console portion. I’ve heard unconfirmed rumblings of 900p for the infamous hybrid part of the device.

    1. They don’t know the size of the box, nor advertising promotions. This is all someone spreading false information, just because they can. Tip for reddit users, DON’T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ!!

    2. Terrible slogan, No way they’d make a box with a placeholder name and blurred out images and let retailers see it, and it’s too early for retailers to have boxes anyway. Its also pretty unlikely the box is bigger than the Wii U box. Fake as my last relationship.

    3. “Interact with your game on the go” is not a real slogan. It’s not simple enough. The wording is wrong. “Play anywhere”, “There’s no play like it” are slogans. This is fake.

    4. I have a friend who works for a very large retailer (GameStop not a large retailer +10 Sins)
Don’t want to be “known” yet takes still gives us (crappy) classified information that he/she/shle have access to anyway + 50 Sins
*Marketing You totally made that slogan up but then again ds slogan was not good neither but still that’s a sin + 10

      “ITS A TRAP”

    5. I dont really believe any of this, or at least not the specs. 4K streaming appeals to a small minority who own 4K TVs, and would be a waste of money for the majority of Nintendo’s audience. Also, 900p for the handheld unit also seems unlikely. 720p would be perfectly sufficient for a small screen, and keep the all-important price tag down. With regards to 1080p60, that’s not really that surprising. There should be at least some games able to run in that quality on the NX.

    6. Not really any info here.
It’s using cartridges – we knew that.
It’s laughing in March – we knew that.
Demo units will arrive in stores just before launch – Dah.
It comes in a box – Dah
The guy may or may not know anything about the box – ??

Closest to meat in the pie is the screen… Which is either 900p or 1080p… Or something. Yeah we could figure out that unless Nintendo had lost their brains, it’d be at least 720p.

Other than that – it can do 1080p at up to 60 fps when connected to a TV. Actually that means nothing unless we know how graphically intensive the games are lol!

So… Massive leak? No. Some possible placeholder info padded out with likely guesses.
