Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima was recently interviewed by Sankei West, taking the opportunity to discuss the success that Splatoon and amiibo have seen as well as what the future holds for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.

The conversation soon turned to Nintendo NX, which Kimishima recently referred to as a “brand-new concept” that wouldn’t see the company shift away from their “unique software-led hardware-software integrated business” at their core.

While much more about their “dedicated game platform” wasn’t shared in this new interview, Kimishima explained that development was progressing steadily and that Nintendo has aimed to create a concept that will immediately attract consumer attention.

With the reveal promised for 2016, we’re now left wondering precisely when the company will choose to lift their shroud of secrecy surrounding what’s next…

  1. Most likely at E3 2016, that would be the most logical time for such a big reveal.
