Nintendo of America has announced that it is no longer providing factory repairs on the original Nintendo 3DS system.

It’s unclear whether this affects the Nintendo 3DS XL, which had arrived little over a year after the original model was launched worldwide.

“Nintendo no longer offers factory repairs for the original Nintendo 3DS system. Newer Nintendo 3DS family products (including the Nintendo 3DS XL and Nintendo 2DS) are still being repaired,” the company writes.

“If you aren’t sure which system you have, check the serial number on the back of your system. If the serial number begins with CW, you have an original Nintendo 3DS system.”

Those that encounter any issues moving forward are instead advised to consider replacement or upgrade options, which may include the New Nintendo 2DS XL that was announced recently.
