Nintendo Movies On The Way In The Next Few Years

Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima has signalled that they have been in negotiation with production companies around the world with the view to create movies based on the company’s iconic IP.

His comments were made in an interview with Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun, in which there was further conversation about how Nintendo want to be more proactive in ways that will increase the number of people that will be introduced to their cherished character roster.

Part of that plan had been their step toward creating apps for the smart device market, but Kimishima had hinted at wider developers in his message to shareholders and investors.

“We are now expanding how we leverage Nintendo IP in various ways beyond our traditional use of them predominantly within the dedicated video game platform business,” he had shared late last year.

Kimishima took chance to acknowledge that the live-action Super Mario Bros. movie was notoriously bad, meaning that Nintendo has therefore looked to secure an arrangement where “we can do as much as we can ourselves.”

He suggested that it was likely that they would pursue 3D animation, an area that has been explored in recent years with Shigeru Miyamoto’s Pikmin Short Movies.

While there was no firm plan to share, he anticipates that the company would have their first movie ready within the next few years.
