Nintendo continues to explore ways to move beyond the traditional boundaries of gaming to reach an even wider audience, a strategy that, this month, has seen Nintendo Labo release.
These interactive build-and-play kits are designed to inspire creative minds, letting players build cardboard contraptions that they can interact with on Nintendo Switch. And, while there are only two kits at launch, Nintendo intends to make them a “staple product.”
“In addition, Nintendo is providing a new kind of play with Nintendo Labo, which people have been calling a ‘very Nintendo’ kind of product,” Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima explained
“We intend to nurture Nintendo Labo into one of our staple products that provide an experience that is unique to Nintendo Switch, and reach a broad global audience encompassing not just traditional video game fans, but also people who heretofore had no interest in video games.”
The Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 01: Variety Kit and Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 02: Robot Kit are now available worldwide.
