Nintendo eShop’s Game Boy classics hidden features

As with many, I eagerly downloaded the first major system update for the Nintendo 3DS this morning, grabbed the free Pokédex 3D application and Excitebike from the 3D Classics range, and then proceeded to purchase Super Mario Land and Alleyway from the Virtual Console!

Having played each I’ve finally gotten around to seeing how the Game Boy titles work on the Nintendo 3DS, and was surprised to stumble upon a rather nifty hidden feature.

When you’ve booted a Game Boy title up, if you hold both the L + R shoulder buttons, you can freely switch between either black and white colouring and the Game Boy green tinge.

Further to this if you hold Start + Select before you boot the game from the system menu, not only are you able to view it in its native resolution, it’s also encased by a virtual Game Boy itself! This can then be further enhanced with the 3D Depth Slider.

The system update is now live worldwide, so make sure you check it out!
