Nintendo Entertainment Planning & Development (EPD) Tokyo are looking to bolster their ranks, a new job advertisement revealing their intention to hire a level designer to specifically work on an undisclosed 3D action game.

The successful applicant will join a revered team that has largely been responsible for taking the company’s mustachioed plumber to dizzying heights – an unrivalled lineage that includes Super Mario Galaxy and its sequel, Super Mario 3D Land, Super Mario 3D World and Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.

Their teams have also co-developed The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D and The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D, while working on smaller digital releases such as NES Remix, Flipnote Studio 3D and Nintendo 3DS Guide: Louvre.

But, it is the shroud of mystery surrounding this new 3D action game that excites more. The studio has been developing their next Mario game since before April 2014, sharing at the time that there was “still a lot more room for discovery and invention” in the series.

Nearly two years on, and we’re still in the dark. Whether it had been destined for Wii U and has since shifted to see release on Nintendo NX is uncertain, but 2016 looks to be the year in which we find out more.
