Nintendo Downplays Wii U Production Coming To An End

Nintendo has moved to downplay Nikkei‘s report that Wii U production will come to an end this year.

It had suggested that the company had made the move in response to the lack of momentum behind the console, and that it has now reached a point where Nintendo are unable to dramatically change that fact. They also mention that developing games for Wii U had been a challenge for many studios, in that the console’s architecture had made doing so worrisomely difficult.

The Japanese publication shared that specific components for Wii U had ceased production, but software development will continue to overlap Nintendo NX launching at retail at a still undisclosed point in time.

“This isn’t an announcement from our company,” a Nintendo spokesperson shared with IT Media. “From the next quarter and thereafter as well, production [of the Wii U] is scheduled to continue.”
