Nintendo dismiss Netflix’s The Legend of Zelda series rumours as inaccurate

Reports that Netflix were in the early stages of creating a live-action television series based on The Legend of Zelda were “not based on correct information,” according to Nintendo president Satoru Iwata.

Early February had seen The Wall Street Journal give the rumour mill a whirl, claiming that a the project was being targeted as being a more family-friendly take on HBO’s enormously successful Game of Thrones adaptation.

“As of now, I have nothing new to share with you in regard to the use of our IPs for any TV shows or films, but I can at least confirm that the article in question is not based on correct information,” Iwata clarified to TIME.

Nintendo have discussed before how they’re always in conversation with third-parties to see if there is any way that they can leverage their IPs more. Although, after 1993’s Super Mario Bros. flop we can understand why they’re so cautious…
