Nintendo Direct March 2018: All The Nintendo Switch News You Need To Know

Inklings Super Smash Bros Nintendo Switch

Nintendo sprung a surprise Nintendo Direct on the world last week, and, for those wanting to make sure that they haven’t missed anything, we’ve summarised all the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch news that was shared in one handy post!

Tilt, Tap And Press In WarioWare Gold On Nintendo 3DS
Nintendo kicked off the Direct with the unexpected announcement of a “new” WarioWare title for 3DS. Featuring over 300 microgames (offering both a mix of old and new) the game will make use of all the console’s features including buttons, tilt and touchscreen. It’s great to see the series still alive and we’ll get our hands on the game July 27th.

Action Meets Tower Defense In Dillon’s Dead-Heat Breakers On Nintendo 3DS
It’s been a while since we’ve seen Dillon in action (unless you count his guest appearance as an assist trophy in Super Smash Bros for Wii U) but the 3DS will play host to yet another action focused tower defense adventure only this time you’re able to play alongside an animalized version of your Mii. The game will release on eShop May 25th.

Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story + Bowser Jr.’s Journey Gulps Nintendo 3DS Release In 2019
While last year the 3DS received a remake of the original Mario and Luigi RPG it seems Nintendo isn’t done updating the series quite yet with the third and perhaps best entry making its way to the system in 2019. Just like last year’s release, a side mode will also be included, this time named Bowser Jr’s Journey.

Detective Pikachu Pre-Load Now Available
Detective Pikachu also received a segment focusing a little more on the story of the game that sees you team up with a deep-voiced Pikachu as you unravel the mystery behind the strange behaviours of the Pokemon of the city. Detective Pikachu is out March 23rd.

Luigi’s Mansion Haunts Nintendo 3DS In 2018
Chalk this one up as one of the bigger more unexpected surprises of the event; Gamecube classic Luigi’s mansion is heading to 3DS later this year. The Mario series meets Ghostbusters in this vacuum cleaning, ghoul busting adventure that’s fantastic to see return but also a potentially worrying sign for the chances of Gamecube games coming to Virtual Console.

Free Kirby Star Allies Updates Will Add More Dream Friends
Kirby Star Allies is only one week away but Nintendo still had a couple of nuggets of new information to reveal. Not only can you befriend and play as Dream Friends Meta Knight, King Dedede and Bandana Waddle Dee but characters from the series’ past will be released in updates post-launch too. Rick, Kine, and Coo will be joining in the first update. Marx and Gooey will follow at a later date.

Wield The Celestial Brush In Okami HD On Nintendo Switch
After releases on the Xbox One and PS4 last December, Capcom has finally revealed Okami will also hit Switch this summer. This version will make use of the system’s touch screen controls as well as its motion controls for the game’s brush stroke mechanics. A real classic and a must for those who have yet to experience Amaterasu’s adventure.

Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido Plates Up On Switch And Nintendo 3DS
The wonderfully weird looking Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido is out on Switch and 3DS June 8th. In a world where sushi is banned you’ll tackle a sushi empire in battles where you’ll need to eat more sushi than your opponent and throw the plates at them (no really). Expect online multiplayer.

Octopath Traveler Releases For Nintendo Switch On July 13th
The Nintendo Direct offered details on two new characters: Tressa, the merchant, and medicine specialist Alfyn. Along with that a special edition of the game was also announced but perhaps best of all was the news that Octopath Traveler would release July 13th. If you haven’t tried the demo yet, make sure you do.

Take A First Look At Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes In Action
Travis Touchdown is finally back! After two excellent outings on the Wii, the Johnny Knoxville looking, quick talking assassin must make his way through seven unique games including a racer, puzzler and adventure experiences. While this isn’t the true sequel many were hoping for, the game appears to retain the same high level of style and violence we’ve come to expect. Hopefully, it manages to make its 2018 release.

Dark Souls Remastered Network Test And Solaire Of Astora amiibo Announced
Dark Souls Remastered showed a little more gameplay footage and looks great running on the system. Also announced was a network test to arrive at a later date as well as a Solaire of Astora Amiibo. Both the game and the Amiibo will release May 25th.

Free Mario Tennis Aces Pre-Launch Online Tournament Lands A Side-Spin
After the terrible Mario Tennis Ultra Smash on Wii U, Camelot look to be getting the series back on track with Mario Tennis Aces. With new gameplay wrinkles including slow-down, trick shots breaking rackets this looks like it could be the deepest entry in the series yet. With over fifteen characters, varied courts and an expansive online mode this is one to look out for come release on June 22nd. Nintendo also plan to host a pre-launch tournament in the future.

Get Ready For Adventure In Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker On Switch And Nintendo 3DS
As if July wasn’t already busy enough, Captain Toad will also be making his Switch debut this summer on July 13th. This will for the most part be the same game as the Wii U original with two-player co-op features as well as stages based on kingdoms from Super Mario Odyssey. The game will also launch on 3DS.

Undertale Is Headed To Nintendo Switch
The much-loved indie release is making its way to Switch. In this RPG you take control a child who has fallen into the Underground, a mysterious region beneath the Earth’s surface. Inspired by the Mother and Mario & Luigi series this memorable adventure hits Switch “sometime” in the future.

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy Slide Attacks Nintendo Switch On July 10th
Everyone’s favourite bandicoot finally returns to Nintendo’s platform this July 10th. After the insanely high sales of the PS4 version last summer it seemed inevitable the spinning furball would try to replicate that success on Switch. It’s also interesting to note this is the first time the original trilogy of games has ever appeared on a system outside the PlayStation family.

Journey Through The Maw In Little Nightmares Complete Edition On Nintendo Switch
Little Nightmares: Complete Edition is coming to Switch on May 18th and will include all downloadable content as well as support for the Pac-Man Amiibo. Scanning the figure will unlock the Pakku Mask.

Crime Is On The Rise In South Park: The Fractured But Whole On Nintendo Switch
After numerous retailer leaks and rumours, South Park: The Fractured But Whole finally made its official debut during the Direct. The game is out relatively soon on April 24th with all three DLC packs set to follow after launch.

Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition Strikes Nintendo Switch On May 18th
Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition made the briefest of appearances to announce its release date. You’ll be able to go up against countless armies as Link, Zelda, Ganondorf and the rest of the gang on May 18th.

3-Day ARMS Global Testpunch Starts On March 31st
A new online tournament will run from now through to March 18th, where the top eight players in ranked matches will go on to battle it out for glory. The final will then be streamed live. A Global Testpunch will also run for three days starting March 31st.

Splatoon 2 Update Version 3.0 Adds Rank X
Nintendo isn’t done supporting Splatoon 2 with a new update coming late April. It will include 100-plus pieces of new gear, three stages (Piranha Pit, the returning Camp Triggerfish and Wahoo World) as well as a new Rank X for those looking to advance their S+ rank.

Play As An Octoling In The Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion
Beyond the upcoming multiplayer updates, Splatoon 2 will also release its first ever paid-for single player content this summer. In it you play as Octoling Agent 8 as you shoot your way through eighty missions. The expansion is available to pre-order now on the Nintendo eShop.

Inklings Splat The Battlefield In Super Smash Bros. For Nintendo Switch
In perhaps one of the biggest and most unexpected surprises to come from Nintendo in quite some time, Super Smash Bros. closed off the Direct on a high note. While little information was actually revealed we do know the game will feature the Inklings, Mario and Breath of the Wild Link will feature and that the game is coming this year. Expect more at E3 2018.
