Nintendo Direct, Chibi-Robo! And What Nintendo’s Trolling Could Really Hint At

Many have come to the conclusion that a Nintendo Direct will be broadcast around the world today, after Electronic Arts’ marketing material had leaked Nintendo’s intention to use the presentation to kickstart the year and outline what everyone can expect to be playing on Nintendo Switch in the coming months.

Nintendo normally announces their Nintendo Direct streams a day or two in advance. But, with no news, fans soon began to whip themselves up into a panicked frenzy. (Although, Nintendo of America fanning the flames hasn’t helped matters though.)

It started with the company’s decision to retweet an earlier tweet where Talkatoo from Super Mario Odyssey says: “What is the secret you’re seeking? I know it, I know it, ha HA! I can’t tell you! ♪ It’s hiding somewhere and no peeking! ♪ Go find it, go find it, scra-CAW!”

The reaction from the fanbase was switch, and, soon after, Nintendo posted Chibi-Robo! aflame in Chibi-Robo! Zip Lash, with Nintendo NY soon throwing in a Mii dressed in a Hot Dog Costume from Tomodachi Life.

While these seemingly unconnected images appear to have seen the company playfully troll their fans – who are already hyping up a potential Nintendo Direct without even needing to announce it – there has been speculation as to whether they were actually leaving hints.

Chibi-Robo! Zip Lash was revealed in an unnannounced Nintendo Direct Micro that was broadcast weeks before E3 2015, whereas the Tomodachi Life Direct was released alongside news that the Nintendo 3DS exclusive was being localised for a western release.

While having been a shorter 21-minute presentation, the Nintendo Direct Micro saw the company announce Chibi-Robo! Zip Lash, Dr Mario: Miracle Cure, Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, Mario and Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, new Splatoon content, Art Academy: SketchPad, Project Treasure, LBX: Little Battlers eXperience, Puzzle & Dragons Z + Puzzle & Dragons Super Mario Bros. Edition, and Bravely Second: End Layer.

That could mean that a Nintendo Direct is still on the cards, and that it may happen without warning. Let us know what you think!
