Original Story: Despite earning $94,683 for The Breast Cancer Research Foundation and helping to double attendees for EVO 2013, Nintendo of America have disallowed the fighting tournament from livestreaming any footage of the 12-year old GameCube release.
It’s a move that reflects ridiculously poorly on the Japanese company, an unwise decision that is a remarkable misjudgement that will immediately alienate a proportion of their more hardcore fan base.
The perfect opportunity to help build broader knowledge of the franchise ahead of Super Smash Bros. releasing on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS next year, it’s a miscalculation that signals the company’s community skills need a startling shake up.
“Regrettably, we’ve just been informed by Nintendo of America Inc. that we do not have permission to broadcast Super Smash Bros. Melee for Evo 2013,” the organiser shared.
“In light of this, we must make the following changes to the schedule:
– Smash has been removed from the stream schedule and replaced with a mix of Persona 4 Arena and King of Fighters XIII
– Smash Finals have been moved from Sunday to Saturday, 2:00 PM
– Persona 4 Arena Finals have been moved to Sunday, 10:00 AM
– King of Fighters XIII Finals have been moved to Sunday, 12:00 PM.”
