Nintendo 3DS system updates have showered the handheld with stability improvements over the past few months, but that’s all been leading toward something far more exciting.

Today’s Japanese Nintendo Direct has shared that a system update scheduled for October will allow players to personalise their handheld with new themes – changing the menu background, icons, folders, music and sound effects.

These will be available to purchase from a Theme Shop that will be introduced to the Home Menu. Mario, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds were shown as examples, with more details promised in future.
