The Nintendo 3DS will at last receive its messaging system this week, Nintendo of Europe have confirmed.

Nintendo Letter Box, or Swapnote as it is to be known in North America, was previously announced by Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata back in October.

You’ll be able to send and receive messages through both StreetPass and SpotPass, sharing a greeting or drawing in either 2D or 3D. Your friends will be able to see the message being animated as if it was being re-created before their very eyes.

You can also share photos and sound effects captured with your Nintendo 3DS. Good stuff indeed, and something that has been distinctly lacking since the handheld launched back in February/March.
