This past week has seen the Nintendo 3DS achieve a significant landmark in Japan.

Having seen 211,499 unit sales, it brings the handheld’s lifetime install base to reach a healthy figure of 8,799,378 within the past two years.

In comparison, the PlayStation 3 has an install base that currently sits at 8,716,260, which it has reached in over six years.

It can’t be denied that the Nintendo 3DS has clearly entered its stride in Japan, even if Nintendo have been worried that western sales aren’t seeing similar success.
