The PlayStation 2 remains the best-selling game console worldwide, narrowly edging out the Nintendo DS which comes close behind to secure second place.

When broken down by region, Sony’s console sold 21,833,216 units in Japan alone. But, that milestone has now been surpassed by Nintendo 3DS which, as of this week, has shifted 21,913,661 units in Nintendo’s home country.

Media Create reports that the Nintendo 3DS family of systems collectively sold 133,478 units in Japan this week, with Yo-kai Watch 3: Sukiyaki topping the software chart after selling 337,979 copies.

Pokémon Sun, Pokémon Moon, and Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS round out the top three places, with plenty of other new and evergreen Nintendo 3DS releases in the chart demonstrating the platform’s continued dominance in Japan.
