New Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom Trailer Traverses Hyrule

Nintendo has shared a new trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, which is out on Nintendo Switch next month.

This has been released alongside new information for the upcoming game, which includes:

An Adventure Log will help you keep track of the quests that you have to help Hyrule’s inhabitants.
Objects known as Waypoints are scattered throughout the land, and, once discovered, can be warped to by selecting them on the map.
Zelda has a “trusty steed” that can hop over small obstacles and gallop through weaker enemies to help her traverse the overworld of Hyrule faster.
Business Scrubs man Smoothie Shops across Hyrule, where the ingredients that you collect can be blended into delicious drinks. These have different effects depending on their ingredients, such as replenishing her health.
Zelda can equip outfits and accessories to enhance specific abilities at Smoothie Shops.
Zelda’s companion Tri can help her with a peculiar power called Bind, which makes objects follow Zelda’s movements. That could help unearth buried treasure or reposition troublesome enemies, for example. Whereas Reverse Bond lets Zelda follow a creature or object’s movements.

In The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, it is up to Princess Zelda and her wisdom to save Hyrule. Strange rifts have started to appear causing the kingdom’s inhabitants to disappear, including Link.

Teaming up with the mysterious fairy Tri, Zelda wields the Tri Rod and can use its power to create echoes – imitations of things that she discovers in the environment.

These echoes can be recreated whenever you like to solve puzzles or defeat enemies, whether that be creating water blocks to reach new heights, making a bridge out of old beds or throwing rocks at your foes. You can also create echoes of monsters which can fight at your side in combat.

“This time around, Link has vanished. Now, it’s up to Princess Zelda to step into the protagonist role,” explains The Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma. “You might be thinking, ‘Will Zelda fight with a sword, then?’ Here, we wanted to create a new gameplay style that breaks conventions seen in past The Legend of Zelda games with a top-down perspective.

“How you solve puzzles and battle enemies will change depending on the echoes used. In short, we’ve created a game where each player’s experience will be different.”

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom will be released digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide on 26 September 2024.
