SEGA has confirmed plans to release a new Sonic the Hedgehog game in 2017.

Such news was shared at the Sonic 25th Anniversary Party that took place at Tokyo Joypolis in Japan. While taking attendees through a retrospective look at how the iconic series has been developed over time, Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka revealed the project’s existence and that it will be announced next month.

Those looking forward to the reveal should tune in to SEGA of America’s Sonic 25th Anniversary Party, which takes place at the House of Blues in San Diego on Friday 22nd July – planned to coincide with San Diego Comic-con.

This will be live streamed on Twitch, and will reward those lucky enough to secure tickets with limited edition merchandise.
