Nintendo and Velan Studios have released a new trailer for Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, showcasing how you can turn your living room into Rainbow Road.
Using Augmented Reality technology to bridge the gap between the virtual world of Mario Kart and the real world of your home, the experience has looked to combine on-screen gameplay with physical kart racing.
Inside the box, you will get one kart – which either Mario or Luigi will be driving – four gates, two arrow markers that can be used to enhance your tracks, and a USB charging cable for the kart. You can download the game for free on the Nintendo eShop, that will sync up with your physical kart hardware.
Recommended to have “an area of at least 3.5m x 3m to play in,” you will need to place the four gates to create your track layout before racing around it.
The game’s main mode is Grand Prix, which will challenge you to compete against the Koopalings in eight Grand Prix that have 24 different courses.
Familiar items will make a return. Grabbing an in-game Mushroom will give your physical kart a speed boost, getting hit by a Red Shell will stop your kart in its tracks, and other items will appear like Banana Skins, Bloopers and Bullet Bills.
Underwater, volcanic and retro environmental themes will throw up more hazards to overcome, while collecting in-game Coins will let you unlock new costumes and kart types to race in.
Nintendo has also confirmed other modes in Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, which are:
- Custom Race: This mode gives players even more room for creativity, designing not just the physical layout of the track but also adding hazards, items and more to bring truly unique creations to life.
- Time Trial: Players create a track and then race to set the fastest time possible – competing either against their own personal best, or handing the controller to another player for an exciting Time Trial head-to-head that requires only one Nintendo Switch console and one copy of Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit.
- Mirror Mode: For those who fancy an extra challenge, this mode allows all of the Grand Prix tracks to be played in mirror image, with right turns becoming left and the familiar becoming unfamiliar.
- With multiple Nintendo Switch consoles and copies of Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, up to 4 players can race against each other in either Grand Prix or Custom Race modes. With so many different ways to play, and the ability to utilise furniture, toys and other household objects to create unique home racetracks every time, Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit offers a world of possibilities for imaginative racers of all ages and experience levels.
Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit will release exclusively for Nintendo Switch worldwide on 16th October 2020.
