Netflix are in the early stages of creating a live-action television series based on The Legend of Zelda, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Working closely with Nintendo, the project, positioned as being Game of Thrones to suit a family audience, is currently seeking writers. As can be expected, it is said to follow Link’s adventures through Hyrule as he quests to rescue Princess Zelda.

Nintendo remain protective of their intellectual property after the colossal failure behind 1993’s Super Mario Bros. movie, although continue to allow companies to pitch their ideas. It was only in December that we heard that Sony Pictures were in talks about potentially making a new Super Mario Bros. film.

Netflix declined to comment, whereas Nintendo issued their normal rebuttal in that it “doesn’t comment on rumours and speculation.”
