Whilst the ‘Nintendo Video’ service may not be available until later in Summer, Nintendo of America have announced that Nintendo 3DS owners across both the United States and Canada will be able to download a free Netflix application from today.

This allows members with unlimited streaming plans the ability to instantly watch TV episodes and movies available through the service, providing the opportunity to watch such content on the go wherever a Wi-Fi access point is accessible.

Whilst users will only be able to initially view 3D content, they will soon have access to an additional library of selected movies that may be watched in 3D.

“The new Netflix application looks great, plays great and is a fantastic consumer experience,” commented Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. “It gives Nintendo 3DS owners access to an amazing wealth of movies and TV shows, which they can watch conveniently from thousands of free Wi-Fi access points across the country. Nintendo 3DS truly offers something for everyone.”

“Nintendo is a terrific partner with Netflix,” adds Reed Hastings, co-founder and CEO of Netflix. “We’re excited to extend the partnership to include streaming on Nintendo 3DS.”

As always, the Nintendo 3DS’ parental control settings will allow you to manage access to the Netflix application, ensuring that parents who wish to manage the specific content their children can view may do so.
