Saber Interactive has announced that they will soon release a free Hot Update for NBA Playgrounds.

That news comes as the developer announces that the arcade-style basketball game has sold more than 500,000 copies worldwide across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC since May.

The Hot Update will introduce a 3-Point Contest with online play, 33 new players that include current stars such as J.R. Smith and Chris Paul, dominators from recent eras like Baron Davis and Tim Duncan, old-school legends Jerry West and Elgin Baylor, a new rebounding system and the chance to send friend invites to matches.

“NBA Playgrounds has been a labor of love for us at Saber, so it’s hugely gratifying to see the game strike a chord. Its success has paved the way for us to consider creating other arcade-style sports titles,” explained Saber Interactive CEO Matt Karch.

“We’ve worked tirelessly since release to refine the game and deliver the free content we promised, and we’re going to keep supporting it. I want to thank the community for their ongoing feedback, specifically players on Switch, who had to wait so long for the full experience they deserve.”

NBA Playgrounds is now available on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide.

  1. Too little too late…10gb for this game already too much for the least fun (and most frustrating) of all games I own. Wish it was fun but it’s not…I’m a casual gamer so for my level the CPU wins every time as of the 4th tourney finals …all other basketball games from nba jam (way better) to 2k17 etc are MUCH more playable in my pov.
