NIS America has announced that the musical action RPG Etrange Overlord will receive a western release on Nintendo Switch next year.
Disagaea and Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure creator Sohei Niikawa has worked with Gemdrops, BROCCOLI and SuperNiche, with character designs by legendary illustrator Shinichiro Otsuka.
After she is falsely accused of assassinating the king, Étrange von Rosenburg is swiftly executed. Finding herself in hell, in this “tale of humour and heart,” the sweets-loving daughter of the duke decides to take it over.
To succeed, you must take advantage of the unique revolving land mechanic that sends items, buffs and characters circling around the map. You can indulge Étrange’s insatiable need for sweets to be rewarded with temporary buffs and bonuses.
Your progression through the story will soon present you with the chance to conquer action-packed stages with your friends in a separate multiplayer mode for up to four players.
The publisher has outlined the game’s key features, which include:
- An Army of Subordinates: As Étrange von Rosenburg, gather a colourful cast of characters from all corners of hell and put them to work as your subordinates! Each lovable character was designed by legendary illustrator Shinichiro Otsuka.
- Chase the Revolving Lane: Shoot, dodge, and slash your way across the battlefield in fast-paced action RPG gameplay, featuring a unique lane mechanic that sends items, power ups, and even your characters revolving around the stage! Then enjoy the frenetic gameplay with up to four friends in the multiplayer mode!
- Living Your Best Afterlife: Just because you’re in hell doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy yourself! Follow Étrange as she tries to live her best life no matter the circumstances in a far-reaching story with plenty of laughs, heart, and musical numbers!
Etrange Overlord will be released at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide in early 2026.
