Marvelous has announced that Muramasa: Revenant Blades is in development for Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch.
From developer Vanillaware, this is pitched as “an elevated revival of Muramasa: Rebirth” and marks the first time that the game will have full English voiceover and new localisations in multiple languages.
The 2D action RPG was originally released for the Wii (2009) and was later ported to PlayStation Vita (2013), and now comes to the portable home consoles with support for up to 4K resolution, new combat and weapon systems, along with additional modes and gameplay options.
“Deep in Japan’s past, a great conflict erupts over the ownership of fabled and powerful samurai swords forged by the legendary Senji Muramasa,” the publisher writes in a press release.
“These swords grant their owner both incredible power and a madness that can be sated only by blood. As various factions clash over these mythical weapons, demons and evil spirits drawn to the bloodshed rampage across the land. These fables explore the fates of six diverse characters whose lives are thrown into chaos by these revenant blades.”
Muramasa: Revenant Blades will feature original protagonists Momohime and Kisuke alongside Okoi, Gonbe, Arashimaru, and Rajaki, who were introduced in the PlayStation Vita version. This will mean that you can experience all six unique storylines in any order you choose from the start.
The publisher has outlined the game’s key features, which include:

- Reforged and Refined: Variable gameplay styles and new modes give players more ways to play this classic adventure, and to appreciate the game’s magnificent art and animations from a fresh perspective.
Muramasa: Revenant Blades will be released at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch worldwide in early 2027.
