Multiple Component Shortages Impacting Nintendo Switch Production

With Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime indicating that it is likely that the Nintendo Switch will continue to see stock shortages this holiday, it is clear that something has impacted their efforts to scale up the production.

The Financial Times recently spoke to Fils-Aime, who added that supply shortages with multiple components and higher-than-expected demand from consumers were the reasons behind the console being scarce to find around the world.

“I’m going to make millions of these units to flow into the marketplace,” Fils-Aime explained. “But what I don’t know is what the demand is going to be. And there is a potential that demand is going to outstrip supply.”

While Japanese analysts believe that Alps Electric may be struggling to produce enough vibrating motors that are used in the Joy-Con for HD Rumble, others believe that parts that Nintendo is manufacturing may also be another bottleneck.

Fils-Aimé refused to point to any particular supplier but added: “There is not one choke point, there are multiple choke points. I won’t go into any more detail but it’s not just one component.”
