Koei Tecmo has announced that Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX will receive a western release on Nintendo Switch.

This bundles together Monster Rancher 1 (1997) and Monster Rancher 2 (1999) for the portable home console – helping to celebrate the series’ 25th anniversary – in which you will be challenged to raise your own monsters and train them to compete against other creatures in tournaments. There are hundreds of different monster types that each has their own skills and abilities.

The special collection also has content that wasn’t included with the original western release, such as additional save slots, Freeze slots and Monster Hall of Fame slots. There are also new features which include a memo feature to use while raising monsters, rankings for random battles and a high-speed mode that lets you play through the game faster.

The Monster Rancher series had used physical CDs to let you generate monsters in the game, with each CD having a unique ID that would spawn a different monster. This has been re-worked in Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX, which will now allow you to search a database to find your desired CD and generate a monster from its data.

Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX will release on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide on 9th December 2021.
