Monolith Soft has revealed that it assisted Nintendo with developing Mario Kart World for Nintendo Switch 2.

The company confirmed on social media that it had been “contracted to develop the field and character designs” for the kart racer.

Best known for the Xenoblade series, the developer has previously been tasked to help support development on games such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 2, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Splatoon 3 and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

With extensive open-world experience, Monolith Soft’s expertise will surely have helped with the game’s expansive Free Roam mode and perhaps the way in the Knockout Tour mode links multiple courses back-to-back.

We’re had at work on our Mario Kart World review, but we’re enjoying our time with the game. In our preview, we concluded: “I’ll be honest, I had a hard time thinking how exactly Nintendo were going to top the truly amazing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, but if my early hands on with Mario Kart World is anything to go by, it looks like the Nintendo Switch 2 will be kicking off with another fantastic entry in the long running series.”

Mario Kart World is now available at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 worldwide.
