Yono and the Celestial Elephants creator Niklas Hallin has teamed up with Burning Planet to release Molly Medusa: Queen of Spit on Nintendo Switch.
Pitched as “a gravity-bending 3D adventure where everyone turns to stone,” you play as Molly, a sculptor’s apprentice who has been cursed to become a snake-haired Medusa. Every living thing that she goes near instantly turns into stone, from friends and enemies to shopkeepers and bosses.
As she struggles with loneliness and alienation, her quest will take her through a series of mystical temples. Inside these temples gravity is local and her “down” is calculated from the surface that she is standing on, allowing her to walk up walls and even upside down on the ceiling.
This has allowed the developers to design levels that twist in on themselves and curl into labyrinths that are otherwise physically impossible to overcome. You can expect petrified enemies to accompany the game’s gravity-related puzzles and non-Euclidean architecture.
“I’m a solo game developer from Sweden. In 2017 I released Yono and the Celestial Elephants, a Zelda-like adventure about a young and naive elephant god,” Niklas Hallin explains. “The time has finally come for my next big game, Molly Medusa: Queen of Spit, and this time we’re making full use of 3D space!”
Molly Medusa: Queen of Spit will release digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide in Spring 2023.
