Mojang still open to Minecraft on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS

Microsoft’s acquisition of Minecraft developer Mojang has not hindered any chance of their globally popular sandbox eventually seeing release on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.

That’s according to Mojang’s chief operating officer Vu Bui, who shared that expansion to other platforms is being considered beyond those that Minecraft already supports.

“If I had my way, we’d be on everything,” Bui admitted to MCV at last week’s Minecon in London. “We want to continue to be available to all players, and that means being on new platforms because everyone uses something different.”

He continued, “I’ve never heard a reason why we haven’t ended up on Wii U or 3DS. It just hasn’t happened yet.”

Mojang’s lead designer Jens Bergensten had previously shared back in 2013 that it was “very unlikely” that Minecraft would release on Wii U at the time, with studio founder Markus ‘Notch’ Persson clarifying later that year: “I agree a Wii U version would make sense, btw. The only reason for no current plans is we’ve got too much work already. I <3 Nintendo."
