Within a recent interview with The Observer, legendary Japanese video games designer and producer Shigeru Miyamoto has continued to clarify the stance that Nintendo take in regards to their competitors.

Miyamoto explained that when you refer to competing with others, you always discuss what has been done already and aim to beat it, rather than focussing on more innovative ways to steer new platforms above and beyond that achieved previously.

Having been queried as to whether he thought that Nintendo felt challenged with the need to produce a console entirely different to its competitors, Miyamoto replied: “I think when you talk about competing against others, the problem is that you refer to something that’s been done already and try to beat it.”

He continued, “Rather than looking at what other companies are doing, the focus at Nintendo is on uniqueness. Providing new means of entertainment is the important thing.”
