Miyamoto: Luigi’s Mansion not inspired by Ghostbusters

Despite the continual ghost hunting and backpack capture device, Luigi’s Mansion didn’t take inspiration from cult supernatural comedy Ghostbusters.

Quite the contrary, apparently, with Shigeru Miyamoto revealing during a recent interview that it was exactly the opposite of what the development team were aiming to achieve.

“I am a fan of Ghostbusters,” Miyamoto confessed to ABC News. “That wasn’t the inspiration for the original Luigi’s Mansion.

“In fact, when we were developing the original Luigi’s Mansion, we were taking care as a team, even though that wasn’t our original inspiration, to make sure that people didn’t just assume that that was what we were trying to do.”

Luigi’s Mansion 2 releases across Europe on March 28th, and is currently available across North America.
