Legendary game developer Shigeru Miyamoto has expressed his belief that Nintendo finding their next new, big-hitting IP will be the solution to its current financial problems.

Nintendo recently announced that it expects to post a loss for the current financial year, and Miyamoto believes that they must invest in development to ensure they can bring themselves back into profit.

“Developing big hit titles must be the solution”, Miyamoto explained. “I am acting with the understanding that one big hit title can change multiple phases of a situation in the entertainment business, and I feel that finding such one big hit is my basic job”.

Miyamoto is best known for creating the Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda and Donkey Kong franchises, as well as casual consumer hits such as Wii Sports and Wii Fit.

However his more recent efforts, which include Wii Music and Steel Diver, failed to make an impact with critics and at retail.
