Minecraft Wii U Edition rated by PEGI

Minecraft Wii U Edition has been rated by Pan European Game Information (PEGI), signalling that Mojang’s cultural phenomenon will finally see release on Nintendo’s console.

Mojang had once said that it was “very unlikely” to see release on Wii U, despite Nintendo of America having been keen to see it on the console. Then, when development was rumoured, Markus “Notch” Persson stepped in to immediately debunk the claims.

However, Telltale Games confirming that Minecraft: Story Mode would see release on Wii U seemed to indicate that Microsoft’s acquisition of creator Mojang had once again opened the door.

What will be interesting to see is how Nintendo will leverage their IP, with Minecraft having received Star Wars, The Simpsons, Doctor Who and Marvel crossover content over the years. Could we see Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda and Pokémon appear as blocky forms of themselves?

It’s likely that we’ll learn more in today’s Nintendo Direct!
