Miitomo preregistration has now opened, available in the 16 countries that the free-to-start social app will launch in next month.

Those that preregister will receive an email notification when Miitomo is available, and can earn their first Platinum Points for the My Nintendo rewards service. You can head to the official Miitomo website to do so!

Nintendo’s first-ever app for smart devices, Miitomo will allow users to create their own Mii character and spark conversations with friends.

Once your Mii has been created, friends can be added in person or through existing Facebook or Twitter accounts. Miitomo will then create discussions by asking users to answer all kinds of questions. Your answers are then shared with friends, and part of the fun will be discovering surprising facts about your friends.

Mii characters can be personalised with shorts, trousers, socks, shirts, shoes, hats and all manner of accessories. That also includes bear, pirate and hot dog costumes, and, as you play, you will earn Miitomo coins that can be redeemed in the in-app shop to unlock more outfits. This is where in-app purchases will sit, where players can buy more Miitomo coins with real currency.

Then there’s Miifoto, where players can put their Mii character in fun poses or combine them with photos to produce hilarious results – to then share on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook.

Nintendo has confirmed that Miitomo will launch in the following countries in March: UK, Ireland, France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Luxemborg, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, United States, and Canada.
