Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer was a guest speaker at WSJ Tech Live last week, an event at which he expressed an interest in wanting to see the Call of Duty series come to Nintendo Switch.
The conversation came as the company continues to wait on their acquisition of Activision Blizzard to be approved, currently being held up by the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) as they determine whether it would lessen competition.
PlayStation has objected to the acquisition’s approval, in that it is worried that its large player base would lose out on the Call of Duty series becoming an Xbox exclusive. However, Microsoft continues to argue that it wants to see it on every possible platform, much in the same way as Minecraft.
“Call of Duty specifically will be available on PlayStation. I’d love to see it on the Switch, I’d love to see the game playable on many different screens. Our intent is to treat Call of Duty like Minecraft,” Spencer explained, as reported by The Verge senior editor Tom Warren. “This opportunity is really about mobile for us. When you think about 3 billion people playing video games, there’s only about 200 million households on console.”
It has been nearly a decade since the Call of Duty series has been seen on a Nintendo platform, with the ill-fated Wii U having been graced with Call of Duty: Black Ops II (2012) and Call of Duty: Ghosts (2013).
