Metroidvania-inspired ReVeN sets sights on Wii U and 3DS

Varia Games have signalled their intention to bring their Kickstarter project, ReVeN, to Wii U and 3DS.

Now less than $5000 away from their initial funding goal with 24 days to go, that ambition looks set to be fulfilled although their estimated completion window currently sits in February 2016.

The 2D side-scrolling shooter and platformer, which is set in the 28th Century on planet XR-Keres, takes inspiration from classics such as Metroid and Mega Man, whilst plucking ideas from revered RPG elements in games such as Deus Ex.

“We know that one of the biggest fanbase for Meroidvanias is on Nintendo’s platform,” Varia Games producer John Rogeles explained to Pure Nintendo. “We ourselves are big fans of Nintendo and their game design ethics. We feel that ReVeN has a special place on the Wii U and possibly 3DS.”

He later continued, “We love Nintendo! They made our childhood what it was. In some small way this is us giving them a thank you for the games we grew up with. We hope we can do the same for others with ReVeN.

“We want ReVeN to be remembered as the game that started a new way to play a side-scroller. We are also looking into the 3DS as well. It would be amazing to implement our game’s mechanics to the touch screen and the 3D effects of the little handheld.”
