Metroid: Samus Returns Guide – All Energy Tank Locations

SR388 is a dangerous place, throwing everything that it can at you to cut short Samus Aran’s mission to exterminate all Metroids. As has long been the case with games in the series, there is a clear way that you can improve your odds in Metroid: Samus Returns. Energy Tanks.

There is one Energy Tank to recover in each area, rewarding players that retrieve them with the chance to increase their energy gauge by 99 points. That will quickly prove invaluable as you descend ever deeper below the planet’s surface, facing ever more hazardous conditions and the aggressive enemies that wander them.

Location: Surface
Required Abilities: Morph Ball

This first Energy Tank is located beneath near to where you obtain the Charge Beam, placed in a clear view near a deactivated door that will require the Morph Ball to retrieve.

Location: Area 1
Required Abilities: N/A

This Energy Tank is located above an encounter with an Alpha Metroid and will be in your path as you leave the area.

Location: Area 2
Required Abilities: Morph Ball and Wave Beam

Keep an eye out for this Energy Tank which is near to the room where players will discover the High Jump Boots. The Scan Pulse can point you in the right direction, as always.

Location: Area 3
Required Abilities: Bombs

The Energy Tank can be found on the right-hand side of Area 3 near to where you will encounter another Alpha Metroid.
You can spot it below a door, which you can reach by using a Bomb on the left wall and making your way around.

Location: Area 4
Required Abilities: N/A

This Energy Tank is located in an upper-right direction from the second Chozo Seal in Area 4. For clarity, that’s the one that requires three DNA strands to power.

Location: Area 4
Required Abilities: Morph Ball and Screw Attack

This Energy Tank is located in the upper, central level in Area 4 near where you face another Metroid, and three rooms west from where you unlock your next suit upgrade.

Location: Area 5
Required Abilities: Grapple Beam, Morph Ball, and Super Missile

This Energy Tank is located in the top room in Area 5, beneath the large Aeion Orb.

Location: Area 6
Required Abilities: Morph Ball

This Energy Tank is located in a room to the top-right in Area 6, near to another Metroid encounter as well as a Missile Tank.

Location: Area 7
Required Abilities: Power Bombs

The Energy Tank is located centrally in the top area in Area 7, near to a big Aeion Orb and a nearby room full that is heavily patrolled by Chozo security machines.

Location: Area 8
Required Abilities: Screw Attack and Spider Ball

The last Energy Tank is, for some reason, placed on the ceiling in the second room that you reach in Area 8.
