Nintendo has announced Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, in which you can use Joy-Con 2 mouse controls to wield Samus’s arm cannon with more precision.

With enhanced visuals and performance, you can choose to play in Quality Mode (60 frames per second in 4K resolution in TV mode/1080p while in handheld mode) and Performance Mode (120 frames per second in 1080p resolution in TV mode/720p in handheld mode), both of which support HDR.

After the galaxy’s greatest bounty hunter is unexpectedly transported to Viewros, she must explore the planet for answers. Granted psychic abilities, such mysterious and ancient powers can be used to control the trajectory of her beams, operate mechanisms and open doors. In Retro Studios’ latest take on the sci-fi action-adventure series, you will discover why these powers were bestowed upon her and what her fate will be.

It has been explained that the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of a game is a bundle that includes the original game and its upgrade pack, which “enhances the game to take advantage of the capabilities of the Nintendo Switch 2 system.”

If you own the original Nintendo Switch game – either as a physical or digital version – you can upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition by purchasing the game’s upgrade pack digitally from the Nintendo eShop, My Nintendo Store or at retailers.

The company has outlined the specific Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrades, which include:

  • Support for mouse controls using Joy-Con 2 controllers
  • Enhanced resolution, textures and load times
  • Choose from two display modes:
    • Quality Mode runs at 60 frames per second in 4K resolution in TV mode/1080p while in handheld mode.
    • Performance Mode runs at 120 frames per second in 1080p resolution in TV mode/720p in handheld mode.
  • Both display modes feature HDR support

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will be released at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2 worldwide in 2025.
